At Can Jou, you can learn the subtle language of horses through feel, intuition, balance and timing. We will help you to develop, explore and understand deeper communication.  Offer knowledge and give guidance in mastering the horses natural language to enrich your relationships with horses.

Partnership

There are no better teachers of horsemanship than the horses themselves and besides the 45 resident horses at Can Jou you have Adam Shereston and Danielle Visarius.  They are the main trainers behind the horsemanship training section at Can Jou.  Between them, they have a wealth of knowledge and understand what it takes to achieve a harmonious relationship with horses.  Their intention is to teach people how to better understand horses by improving knowledge of behavior and developing an understanding of the true nature of the equine species.

“We work from a feel based approach, focusing on the horses mind and natural instinct. The aim is to influence and release maneuvers instead of forcing them.  This aids us in developing empathy and understanding and produces a dedicated partner”.

Groundwork
The foundation starts on the ground. It is a good way to be introduced to their language, learn to read what the horse is telling you and become aware of the subtle signals they give.  It is an opportunity to understand the importance of body language and what effect this has on the horse. We will help you bring out natural leadership skills, show you how to lead and direct the horse from different positions confidently and safely without the use of pressure.   In short: How to build a willing partnership!

Riding
Once a good foundation is established, we move on to the saddle where the groundwork will be translated to the ridden work. In the saddle we will make you aware of how it feels to move in time with the horse, following his natural movements and how you can influence these movements. In other words; you will learn how to ride horses with feel.
